Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

I will admit I am full on in my pumpkin obsession right now.  Pumpkin porridge, pumpkin bread, pumpkin granola… you’d think the ol’ taste buds would be over the pumpkin party by now. But no, it’s still on… and this pumpkin pie smoothie has been one of the shining stars in the pumpkin shenanigans.

Looking for all the yum of pumpkin pie minus post pie sugar crash?  With with pumpkin pie smoothie you can get all the taste minus the sugar (and the chewing!).

Not only does this pumpkin pie smoothie taste like an indulgent treat, its packed with health benefits due to the power of pumpkin. 💪  Pumpkin, like all orange hued plant food, is packed with beto-carotene.  It is also a great food for digestion due to its fiber content, boasting 8 grams per 1 cup (at least the canned pumpkin 😉).  Add that with the fiber from the banana and this smoothie with leave your belly smiling.

Many smoothies are packed with all kinds of good for you goodies, but also packed with loads of sugar.  Yes, even fruit sugar can get your blood sugar out of whack when you ingest too much of it all at once.  This smoothie is easy on the blood sugar, as each serving only contains 1/2 banana (only about 7 grams).  Plus the fiber from the pumpkin will prevent that nasty blood sugar spike.

I love to have this pumpkin pie smoothie as a nice fall treat to satisfy my sweet tooth, but it is also wonderful as a post workout recovery snack.  If you are enjoying this smoothie after an intense workout I’d suggest adding in a tablespoon or two of hemp seeds to bump up the protein, or even a scoop of high quality protein powder (this one is my fave). If you dig the pumpkin taste in this smoothie, but are looking for a bit more sweet, you can easily add a tablespoon of pure maple syrup.
