Maca Energy Balls
These maca energy balls are a great on the go snack full of healthy fats, protein, and fiber. With the added bonus of maca in the mix you’ll be feeling a pep in your step as you pop them.
During the summertime, I am definitely a grazer. Being a health foodie and having no set in stone schedule for 2 months affords me the chance to nibble on this and that throughout the day. But now 3 weeks into the school year, sometimes a whole day goes by and I realized I never got my munch on.
Sometimes in the whirl of the day, stopping to eat a snack is just not always doable (at least when you have 20 raggamuffins vying for your attention 😉). So I decided it was time to whip up some snacks that were so on the go, I’d have have no excuse to not get my snack fix.
These maca energy balls are my answer. Not only are they portable and easy to pop in your mouth, but they are packed with healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Just what you need to get you grooving through your day.
Not only are these energy balls nutrient dense, they pack 3 grams of protein per ball. They would make a perfect post workout snack, afternoon pick me up, or a nice after dinner treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
As an added bonus, these protein balls contain maca, a superfood from Peru known for boosting energy levels among a bevy of other health benefits. Maca, like Reishi mushrooms and Holy Basil, is an adaptogen. Adaptogens have the amazing ability to help bring people in balance and recover from stress. Whether you are worn out and lacking energy or feeling too wired and anxious, maca will have your back.
Maca gains a lot of its notoriety from its ability to balance hormones. It possesses aphrodisiac qualities and is known to boost libido in both men and women. I’ve experienced this myself (unknowingly at first) just from adding some maca to my morning quinoa porridge. Suddenly while munching along I’d feel a little tingle in my nether regions. ☺ Baffled by how much my body seemed to be enjoying my breakfast, I dug a bit deeper down the maca rabbit hole to discover it can increase blood flow to your pelvic region. Too much information? Well, just saying the stuff’s for real.
And now that I reaaaally have your attention, why not go whip a batch of these up and test it out for yourself?
Note: Maca is powerful stuff, so if you’re trying it out for the first time stick to the 1 tbsp. maca in the recipe. A little goes a long way… If you are already a maca aficionado and know how it effects your body, you could another 1/2 tablespoon or so.
